Before repairing a computer, reinstalling its operating system or performing any other advanced task, you must know what you are working with. If you have no idea what kind of hardware lies within that machine or what drivers it uses, you can forget about fixing it. There are different ways to acquire these details, but some of them require going to the system's equivalent of the deepest, darkest corner on Earth. Fortunately, there is software which will gather all this information and display it in a single interface. ASTRA32 is very straightforward in this process. It does not feature advanced functions, complex menus or anything else that may slow you down. It will only tell you what kind of computer you are using and what is installed on it.

You can use the application free of charge for a limited time period, after which you will have to buy a license. The setup kit can be downloaded fast, due to its small size and the installation process will be done in a few seconds.

At a first glance, you would be convinced that ASTRA32 is actually the Device Manager feature that comes with MS Windows, but that is wrong. Every single detail about your computer can be found in separate categories which you can access from a tree structure on the left side of the interface. After clicking one of the items in the tree structure, the details themselves will be displayed on the larger area on the right. You can find any kind of information regarding aspects like the used operating system, drivers, PCI/AGP devices, processor cache memory modules and much more.

The application can use all this information to generate reports as plain text or in formats like INI, HTML, XML or CSV. They can be created with the aid of a wizard which can be launched with a toolbar button. During its steps, you can choose the output format, as well as what category of details to include. Finally, you need to set a destination path and select a language for the report. Apart from a few navigation buttons, there are no other functions to find, nor would you need any.

Pros

ASTRA32 will display any type of information regarding your computer. It is very well organized in a tree structure, which makes the information easier to access.

Cons

With so many items, a search feature or one for expanding and collapsing the tree structure would have been helpful. ASTRA32 can provide you with any type of information you need, regarding your computer. It will organize it in a logical manner, making it easy to find.
